Noir Project

 What is "Noir"?

The term Noir describes a genre of crime film or fiction characterised by cynicism, fatalism, and moral ambiguity.

Here are some examples of Noir:

Now how is Noir used in a game?

Noir games take the tropes of film noir and turn them into interactive experiences. Noir games come out of the tradition of film noir, adopting the black and white aesthetics, and other genre tropes for the video game form.

Games with the theme Noir:

L.A. Noire is an action-adventure packed Video Game developed by Team Bondi and Rockstar Games. The game is based in 1947 Los Angeles, it is a gritty, single player detective game set on the infamous streets and in the smoke-filled  back rooms of post war Los Angeles.

Grim Fandango is an Video Game released in 1998, its themes is Adventurous and Noir directed by Tim Schafer and developed and published by LucasArts for Microsoft Windows. It is the first adventure game by LucasArts to use 3D computer graphics overlaid on pre-rendered static backgrounds.

Description Slides About Noir:

What mechanics my game will include:

Walking, jumping, running.

Here are some examples I got from the internet:

                                                                          Walk:
Jump:

Run:

Goal of my game:

The goal of my game should be to eliminate all of the rival gangsters and to leave the hotel top hotel floor safely, Using the gun to eliminate the gangsters. Start the game by opening your hotel door to a almost endless hall way of doors, get to cover to avoid getting shot by the gangsters. Be aware that there is stronger gangsters than others so much make sure to not lay back and relax.

Group Noir game

I am modelling and managing the Trello

My first model for my group project is a barrel, I structured this by using primitives, edge loops, extruding.

Here are some of my ideas I got from the web:

Cylinder

I started with a cylinder to create the shape of the barrel.

I added Edge Loops to manipulate the shape and to give it more of an appearance of a barrel.

Selecting and using the extrusion tool, to make the bars.

I extruded some faces to expand the bars using the move tool. giving it the metal bars to show the detail of the barrel.

                                                                  UV snap shot:

Finished Barrel, This model was quite challenging but I eventually got there at the end, The texture appliance was new to me.

Next Model: First Aid Kit

example

Here is the base, I used a cube and equalised it and I used another cube to create the cross.

The cross is finished and its starting look a little more like a first aid kit.

list of things I have used to make this model.

I Added a handle by using more cubes and rotating them, making them joined together. Giving it more detail and giving it more similarity to the examples.

Here is the finished model of the First Aid Kit, my overall rating on how challenging it was to make this model was a 2/10. It was very easy to make this model because of how simple it is.

Treasure chest model:

Examples I got from a website:

I used these examples to demonstrate on how I want this chest took, It is going to be low poly and is going fit the theme of our group game idea.

Starting with a cube:

I extruded the cube to start making the lid of the chest.

I used the beval tool to shape out the lid to make it more similar to the examples.  I did this by selecting the edges.

here is another angle, I took the fraction and changed it to 0.7 to

I used the beval tool again to add more edges and to give it more of a 3D look.
This improves the chests appearance.

I added another small cude on the front to make a key hole.

I added a wood and metal texture I found from the web, I right clicked and went to "add new material" and have added them to the chest and now I have a finished low poly chest.

Cannon model:

Here are some examples I got from the internet:

Example 1

Example 2

Diagram of a cannon

Modelled 2 wheels using 4 cubes, 2 torus, 2 cylinder. I used the rotate tool and the move tool
 to make everything symmetrical.

Used a cylinder to make the cannon. I then selected the scale tool to make it bigger and similar. I selected the whole cannon and moved it between the wheels. I have now have a rough idea on how I'm going to present this cannon.

I got a wood texture from the internet and Textured one of the wheels by right clicking and pressing "add a new material" I then put a defuser on the top of the cannon to make it more detailed. In the game maybe a spark animation could be added to it after pressing for an example "F to light"

textured the other wheel to make it symmetrical.

I then selected assigned a new material to the cannon and selected a smoky and dark grey by using the "add a new material" option again.

Added some cannon balls to show some more detail on what I wanted, its now starting to have some more similarity to the example I provided.

Almost finished model, Time to update the model make it look a little more appealing.

I updated the model using a third party app.
